Empowering Students to Craft Better Videos
Pei Hwa Secondary School engaged us to boost the video production skills of their Student Councillors, many of whom create content for school events and social media platforms. To strengthen their confidence and raise the overall quality of student produced videos, Mind Theory conducted a CapCut Editing workshop spread across 2 x 3 hour sessions. The workshop combined creative fundamentals with hands on editing practice, giving students a complete introduction to modern content creation.

Better Edits Come From Strong Fundamentals
The first session covered the Fundamentals of Filming and Editing, starting with a clear breakdown of what nonlinear video editing is and why it is the foundation of every professional workflow. Students explored different types of videos commonly used in school based communication such as news style updates, documentary segments, talking head messages, narrative sequences, vlogs, and event coverage. They learned how to plan and structure these videos by understanding sequencing, interview techniques, example scripts, and the use of B roll and cutaway footage to enhance storytelling.
Filming concepts were introduced in a practical way. Students studied shot sizes, behind the shoulder framing, the 180 degree rule, and the importance of closeups for emotional clarity. These fundamentals helped them understand how stronger footage directly leads to smoother editing and more compelling final videos.

The second session shifted into a full CapCut hand’s on experience. Students were guided through the user interface, toolbars, clip properties, media bins, and the timeline structure used by editors worldwide. Using sample clips, they practiced trimming footage, building sequences, and assembling a complete edit from scratch. They also learned how to manage audio levels, apply fades, and add music, voiceovers, sound effects, captions, and subtitles. These techniques taught them how to elevate the professionalism of videos intended for social media.
Exporting settings were covered in detail to ensure students could deliver videos in the correct formats for the school’s digital platforms. Additional editing tools were introduced to broaden their creative options, followed by a Q&A session and a post workshop survey to reinforce learning outcomes.
